The National Wallace Monument stands on Abbey Craig and overlooks the River Forth and across to the City of Stirling. It is visible for miles around. The monument is a tribute to Sir William Wallace, Guardian of Scotland, who fought and defeated the English King Edward I at the battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297.
